Tango Forward

Jackie Stahl

Argentine Tango and Dance Instructor

Jackie has a background in gymnastics and has been dancing Argentine tango and swing for over ten years.  She takes a student-centered approach to teaching, focusing on her students’ strengths and abilities, and builds her curriculum from there.  She helps her students master basic principles of movement and then applies these principles to tango figures and dancing.  She encourages her students to learn by doing and keeps lecturing to a minimum.  Her classes are fun!

Jackie has developed a tango exercise class called Tango Libre.  She uses a series of solo exercises to improve flexibility, balance, posture, strength, musicality, and quality of movement.  As students gain better control over their own bodies with these exercises, they connect more freely and reliably to their tango partners and to the music.
Jackie has studied extensively with both Mariela Franganillo and Daniela Arcuri.  She is thankful for the attention and insights these two world-class dancers and teachers have given her.  She has taken numerous lessons and workshops with a variety of respected dancers, including Guillermina Quiroga, Pablo Pugliese, Jorge Torres, Fabian Salas, Fernanda Ghi and Guillermo Merlo, and Miriam Larici and Hugo Patyn.
Jackie has performed at corporate events, dance festivals, fundraisers, and schools.  Her clients have included The Heritage Dance Festival, University of Pennsylvania Ballroom Society, Temple University, Philadelphia University, Traci Hall Young Professional Dance Company, PECO Energy, and The Center for Advancement in Cancer Education.
Jackie has developed a therapeutic dance program for senior citizens, which she runs at a variety of senior centers in the Philadelphia / New Jersey area.  She has a master’s degree in clinical social work.
